We can rightly say the year 2016 has been a great year, specifically for Nollywood. It is indeed a year of growth and many achievements in the industry.
However, just as they say, the year has shown us it sad side as the Nigerian movie industry lost some of its good people. While we are still heartbroken, below are the people Nollywood lost in 2016:
1. Olamide David
Back in January this year, Olamide David passed away. He had recently won a Best Of Nollywood award for his role in Cobweb.
The kid actor was said to have complained of stomach pains.
Olamide was just 14 years old.
2. Aisha Dankano
In February, news broke that Kannywood Actress Aisha Dankano had passed away. Her death was said to have occurred after a ‘brief illness’.
Aisha Dankano was 34 years.
3. Mike Odiachi
Popular for his role on Igodo, Mike Odiachi passed away in February this year. He died in a hospital in Ikorodu at the age of 51.
4. Festus Aguebor
The news of the Nollywood Actor’s death was broken back in February. He was reportedly sick before he passed away.
Festus Aguebor was in his 70s as at the time of his death.
5. Sikiru ‘Arakangudu’ Adesina
The Actor best known for his ‘bad boy’ roles died of cardiac arrest in February. He was buried in his hometown in Osogbo.
Arakangudu was only 45.
6. Genevieve Nene
Actress Genevieve Nene died after reportedly recuperating from typhoid fever on the 1st of May, 2016.
She was 28.
7. Henrietta Kosoko
Actress and wife of popular Actor, Henrietta Kosoko shocked us all when she passed away in June this year.
She lost the battle against diabetes a year after she had survived a ghastly car accident. Henrietta was just 52.
8. Abdul-Lateef Titilope Ashimiyu aka Alfa Lateef
While the Industry was still trying to grasp the news of Henrietta’s death, Actor best known for his role as an Islamic cleric in Yoruba movies died in June this year. He was reportedly battling Ulcer.
9. Fred Ekata
Actor and member of the Actors Guild Of Nigeria, Fred Ekata passed on in June. His cause of death was attributed to kidney disease.
10. Bukky Ajayi
Veteran Actress Bukky Ajayi passed away in July this year.
Bukky Ajayi was one of Nollywood’s greats and had starred in some of the best movies in the Industry.
She was 82.
11. Martins Njubigbo aka Elder Maya
The Nollywood Actor passed away in September after a battle with chronic liver disease. He was 74.
12. Kudirat Ajimati
The Actress passed on at the age of 45 in November.
13. Ansa Bassey
The Filmmaker passed on in November after reportedly complaining of pains from peptic ulcer. Ansa Bassey was 36 years old.
14.Mulikat Adebola aka Iya Adinni
News of Iya Adinni hit the blogosphere on the 3rd of December. She was said to have died after being sick briefly.
